Part of diving into my Masters at Abertay University was having to shoot a music video with half my cohort within the first two weeks of university. Which may seem daunting depending on what kind of background everyone came from. We had concept artists and storyboard artists, 3D environments artists and game developers, and even a computer science programmer making the leap over to the games industry. The mission? For our group of ten to choose a song and making a music video out of it. Full creative freedom
Naturally, we did what any young adults in their 20s would do. Sat at a round (oval really) table and talked about the things we loved. We found our common ground pretty quickly and moved on with selecting a song. While initially having something else in mind, we pivoted to our second idea and decided to work with Riot Games League of Legend's GODs. Definitely an anthem worth listening to if you haven't already.
This project was my first experience working as a director. While I have had producer experience before, nothing truly prepares you for the chaos as a director. That being said, I had an amazing team of supportive artists and co creators, and the project turned out really well. My contributions include Directing, Chaos and Destruction Simulations, Lighting, and Camera Cinematics. It was my first ever experience with Virtual Production and Chaos Systems in Unreal Engine, and my first ever collaborative production using Unreal Engine 5.6.1. There was a painful moment in the middle where Chaos wasn't working as planned in the MRQ Sequencer but I guess that's part of the game.
